MINNEAPOLIS -- Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and the Minneapolis City Council called on the community to observe a moment of silence at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday to honor the victims and families of the Interstate 35W bridge collapse.
Moment Of Silence Held For Bridge VictimsThe moment of silence was observed during the National Night Out festivities on Aug. 7, and took place from 6:05 to 6:06 p.m., mirroring the time the bridge collapsed on Aug. 1.
Mayor Rybak spent the moment of silence with the families of the victims.
The faith community concluded the moment of silence by tolling bells. The bells at Minneapolis City Hall and Courthouse clock tower also rung, echoing somber tones over the riverfront.
Citizens walked silently to the banks of the Mississippi, looking out over its waters. Several groups prayed for the victims and those who are still missing.
People are encouraged to pay their respects, leave flowers near the park's trees, or leave other memorials in Gold Medal Park.
Gold Medal Park is located next to the Guthrie Theater, between Second Street South and West River Parkway.
