NCAA Game Summary - Hampton Vs. Tulsa

(Sports Network) - Vincent Simpson scored 25 points to lead the Hampton Pirates to a 72-55 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the opening round of the College Park Region of the CBE Classic.

Rashad West added 22 points for Hampton (1-0), while Matthew Pilgrim tallied 11 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Ben Uzoh led Tulsa (0-1) with 13 points, while Glenn Andrews contributed 22 points off the bench.

Despite shooting 36.7 percent from the field in the first half, the Pirates went into the break with a 34-28 lead.

In the second stanza, Hampton held Tulsa to a pathetic 30 percent shooting effort from the floor en route to the 17-point win.

The Pirates played tenacious defense in the win, holding Tulsa to a lackluster 34 percent effort from the field, while also forcing the Golden Hurricane into 19 turnovers.

With the victory the Pirates will now play Maryland in the second round of the College Park Regional on Monday night.
