Minneapolis, MN -- (Sports Network) - Lawrence Westbrook tallied a game-high 20 points to help lead the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 68-61 win over the Bowling Green Falcons as part of the NABC Classic at Williams Arena. Also scoring in double figures for the Golden Gophers (2-0) was Jamal Abu- Shamala who dropped in 10 points in 21 minutes off the bench. The Falcons (1-1) were paced by Darryl Clements with 19 points, adding five assists and four steals along the way, while Joe Jakubowski and Brian Moten contributed 12 and 10 points in the setback. Despite missing all five of his field goal attempts, Otis Polk made his presence felt with a game-high 14 rebounds in 23 minutes. BGSU had a tough time shooting the ball in the first half, converting a mere 26.7 percent from the floor and 1-of-7 out on the perimeter, leaving the visitors with a 36-22 deficit at the break. In the second half it was Minnesota that struggled from the field (8-of-22), allowing the Falcons to make a run and close the gap, but not enough to avoid the seven-point setback. Colton Iverson blocked a total of nine shots all by himself for the Gophers, the team finishing with a school-record 17 rejections overall in the victory. The blocked shot total for Iverson ranks as the third-best effort in school history.
