Charlotte, NC -- (Sports Network) - Jason Rich scored 22 points, and Florida State avenged two regular-season losses with a 70-60 defeat of Wake Forest in the opening round of the ACC Tournament. Ralph Mims scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Seminoles (19-13) who advanced to face the top-seeded Tar Heels, the No. 1 team in the nation, in Friday's quarterfinals. Ryan Reid added 12 points for Florida State, which has won five of six. Jeff Teague scored 15 points for the Demon Deacons (17-13), who have lost five of six after their biggest win of the season, a surprising 86-73 triumph over Duke on February 17. James Johnson had 10 points and nine rebounds, and David Weaver added 12 points for Wake, which swept Florida State in the regular season, but couldn't take the third meeting. Wake Forest trailed only 45-42 after two Teague free throws with under 10 minutes to play, but the Seminoles responded with a 10-3 push to gain some breathing room. Rich scored the last six points of the run on a three-pointer and a three-point play, putting the 'Noles up 55-45 with a little more than seven minutes left. Wake cut to within 60-55 after Teague deposited consecutive buckets with a little more than two minutes left, but the 'Noles wrapped up the win with six straight points, four coming at the charity stripe, and the Deacons couldn't respond. Florida State led by as much as 12 points late in the first half, but the Deacons trimmed the deficit to 31-26 by the intermission.
