NCAA Game Summary - Tulane At LSU

POSTED: 11:34 pm CDT October 31, 2009

(Sports Network) - Jordan Jefferson threw two touchdown passes to Brandon LaFell, and Charles Scott ran for a pair of scores, as ninth-ranked LSU shut down Tulane, 42-0, at Tiger Stadium.

Jefferson completed 11 of his 17 attempts through the air for 163 yards, while Scott finished with 112 yards on 18 carries for the Tigers (7-1), who extended their non-conference winning streak to 22 games, the longest in the nation.

"We wanted this game just like it is," said LSU head coach Les Miles. "We wanted to be tested against a good club, we wanted to answer those challenges. We wanted to run the football better and wanted to get some guys in the game and we did."

LaFell made four grabs for 85 yards, and Russell Shepard added a touchdown run in the win.

Ryan Griffin connected on 21-of-29 passes for 163 yards and an interception for the Green Wave (2-6), who have dropped four straight. Jeremy Williams had 78 yards on eight receptions in defeat.

"It was hard slowing them. They were very physical at the end. They just wore us down," said Tulane head coach Bob Toledo. "Offensively we couldn't run the ball very well against them. I was pleased with the fact that our protection was pretty good. Griffin threw the ball pretty well. I thought that we caught the ball well. They're a good opponent. Let's put it that way. They were tough for us to beat."

LSU scored the game's first points on its second possession, which was set up by a blocked punt.

The Tigers began the drive at the Tulane 23 and needed just two plays to find the end zone. After a four-yard dash by Scott, Shepard took it the rest of the way for a 7-0 LSU lead.

Later in the first quarter, Jefferson threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to LaFell. The long connection capped a five-play, 63-yard drive with 2:32 remaining.

A four-yard scoring run by Scott gave LSU a commanding 21-0 lead at the break. His eight-yard scamper accounted for all the scoring in the third quarter.

LaFell tacked on a 13-yard touchdown grab and Stevan Ridley had a 10-yard scoring run for LSU in the final frame.

Game Notes:
