Boone, NC -- (Sports Network) - Armanti Edwards threw for a school-record 433 yards with four touchdowns and also ran for a score, as Appalachian State began its quest for a fourth straight Football Championship Subdivision title with a 37-21 victory over South Carolina State. The Mountaineers (11-2) will host Richmond in the quarterfinals next weekend. The Spiders advanced with a 38-10 win over Eastern Kentucky. Edwards completed 29-of-41 passes and was picked off twice. He also rushed for 48 yards. The Mountaineers racked up 557 total yards to 325 for South Carolina State (10-3). ASU trailed 14-10 in the second quarter, but Edwards threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to CoCo Hillary with 2:34 remaining in the half to put the Mountaineers on top for good. Edwards added a two-yard scoring run in the third quarter, but South Carolina State made it a three-point game late in the third on a 13- yard run by William Ford, who finished with 117 yards on the ground. Edwards, though, threw scoring passes of two and 33 yards to Brian Quick in the fourth to seal it.
