NCAA Game Summary - North Carolina State At North Carolina

POSTED: 4:01 pm CST November 22, 2008

(Sports Network) - Russell Wilson threw for a career-high 279 yards and two touchdowns, as North Carolina State rolled over 25th-ranked North Carolina, 41-10.

Wilson completed 17-of-28 passes and gained 50 yards on the ground for the Wolfpack (5-6, 3-4 ACC), who have won three games in a row and close out the regular-season on November 29 at home against Miami-Florida, needing a victory to be bowl eligible. Andre Brown ran for 81 yards and a score, while Jamelle Eugene added two rushing touchdowns.

Back in the starting lineup for the first time since breaking his left ankle in September, T.J. Yates struggled for the Tar Heels (7-4, 3-4), who have lost two straight games to effectively end any chance of capturing the Coastal Division.

Yates finished 10-of-22 for 116 yards with one interception before he was replaced by Cameron Sexton midway through the fourth quarter.

North Carolina finished with six turnovers.

It was not a good start for Shaun Draughn and the Tar Heels offense, who turned the ball over on each of their first two possessions. NC State, though, came away with only three points - a 39-yard field goal by Josh Czajkowski.

The Wolfpack then embarked on an 11-play, 97-yard drive that stretched into the second quarter. Faced with a 3rd-and-8 at his own 26, Wilson completed a 55-yard strike to Jarvis Williams to end the opening period. Two plays later, George Bryan hauled in a 17-yard TD pass for a 10-0 Wolfpack lead.

Casey Barth kicked a 37-yard field goal and North Carolina trailed by seven points at halftime.

NC State blew the game open with 21 points in the third quarter. A 54-yard completion to Owen Spencer set up Eugene's one-yard TD run and, after Ryan Houston scored North Carolina's lone touchdown on a five-yard run, Brown answered with a two-yard score.

Richard Quinn lost the handle on the ensuing kickoff and J.C. Neal recovered the fumble for NC State at the Tar Heels 21. Wilson then threw a TD pass to Spencer on the first play of the subsequent drive, and the Wolfpack led 31-10 with 1:14 remaining in the third.

In the fourth quarter, Czajkowski drilled a 32-yarder and Eugene added a one- yard TD in the final minutes.

Game Notes:
