DeKalb, IL -- (Sports Network) - Andrew Aguila's 40-yard field goal in overtime sliced through heavy fog and propelled the Central Michigan Chippewas to a 33-30 win over Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois

Dan LeFevour completed 19-of-26 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns to help CMU (8-2, 6-0 MAC) keep pace with Ball State in the MAC West Division. LeFevour also carried 29 times for 121 yards and another two scores.

NIU (5-5, 4-3) quarterback Chandler Harnish threw for 287 yards and two interceptions, including one in overtime that set up the game-winning field goal. Matt Simon caught six passes for a game-high 131 receiving yards.

Aguila got the Chippewas on the scoreboard first with a 33-yard field goal at the 8:31 mark of the opening quarter.

Early in the second quarter, LeFevour connected with Antonio Brown for a 25- yard touchdown pass to put the Chippewas on top, 10-0.

The CMU defense came up with an interception on the ensuing series, which set up a 27-yard scoring strike from LeFevour to Ontario Sneed with 12:10 remaining in the second quarter.

A big kick return set the Huskies up with favorable field position, but their offense went backwards and they had to settle for three points on a 39-yard field goal by Mike Salerno.

With less than a minute to play in the half, LeFevour scored on a one-yard run. However, Aguila's extra-point attempt hit the right upright.

Salerno made it a 23-6 game with a 31-yard field goal on NIU's opening possession of the second half.

Later in the quarter, LeFevour scored again on an eight-yard run to give the Chippewas a seemingly comfortable 30-6 lead with 5:36 remaining in the third quarter.

But the Huskies would go on to score 24 unanswered points in regulation.

Harnish got the Huskies rolling with a two-yard touchdown run with 1:25 to play in the third. He hooked up with Britt Davis on a two-point attempt to cut the deficit to 30-14.

Then, NIU recovered an on-side kick and drove right back down the field, with Chad Spann scoring on a one-yard run at the 13:44 mark of the fourth quarter. However, the Huskies could not convert the two-point attempt.

The Huskies went 79 yards in eight plays on their next possession, capped off by Spann's three-yard touchdown run with 7:38 remaining in regulation.

NIU kept its hopes alive by converting a 4th-and-18 with less than a minute to play. That helped set up Salerno's game-tying, 24-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining.

NIU got the ball first in overtime, but Harnish was intercepted in the end zone by Josh Gordy on a 3rd-and-12 pass. After three conservative run plays, Aguila redeemed himself for his earlier extra-point miss.

CMU is now winless in its last nine trips to DeKalb, a streak that dates back to 1977.
