GAME NOTES: A pivotal Pac-10 matchup will take place this Saturday at Autzen Stadium when the Oregon Ducks host the Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats pushed their overall record to 6-3 on the year with a convincing, 59-28 victory over Washington State this past weekend. It was the second road win of the season for the Wildcats, and it also pushed their league mark to 4-2 on the year. As for the Ducks, they have won three of their last four games, including a 35-28 victory over Stanford this past weekend. With the win Oregon is now 4-1 at home, and 5-2 in league action. Oregon, which is already bowl eligible, will close out its regular season on November 29th against Oregon State. In terms of the all-time series between the two schools on the gridiron, the Ducks have a 19-14 edge over Arizona. However, the Wildcats defeated Oregon last season by a 34-24 decision.

The Wildcats possess one of the more balanced offensive units in the nation, as the team is averaging 400.2 total ypg, and that has led to 39.1 ppg. The team is averaging 230.8 ypg through the air and 169.4 ypg on the ground. Nic Grigsby has been the top option in the backfield for Arizona, as the tailback is pacing the team with 885 yards and 11 touchdowns. Not to be overlooked is the performance of QB Willie Tuitama, who has thrown for 1,993 yards and 16 scores against five interceptions. The Wildcats were hitting on all cylinders this past weekend against Washington State, as the team racked up a whopping 531 total yards. Arizona scored seven rushing touchdowns in the contest, but the ground game was paced by Grigsby, who pounded WSU for 189 yards and one TD. As for Tuitama he threw for just 214 yards in the game, and also had a touchdown pass on 11-of-15 passing.

On top of the tremendous offensive play, the defensive unit has also put forth a terrific effort, limiting the opposition to just 285.4 total ypg, and 19.1 ppg. The defense has done an exceptional job against the pass, holding teams to just 154.6 ypg, while collecting 14 interceptions. The Wildcats have tallied a total of 20 turnovers thus far, and have also sacked the quarterback 17 times. The Wildcats did a tremendous job against the Cougars in the win this past weekend, holding WSU to just 208 total yards. Arizona allowed the Cougars to score on all four of their red zone chances, but the defense countered by collecting four takeaways, and recording three sacks.

The Ducks come into this matchup averaging an outstanding 454.0 total ypg, and that has led to an equally impressive 38.3 ppg. The main source of the team's success has come from the ground game, as Oregon is churning out a whopping 274.3 rushing ypg, and out of the 49 touchdowns scored by this unit, 35 have come via the run. Jeremiah Johnson and LeGarrette Blount have been a dangerous duo in the backfield, as Johnson has rushed for 825 yards and 11 scores, while Blount has rumbled for 741 yards and a team-best 14 TDs. The Ducks rode their ground game in their recent win over Stanford, as Oregon pounded the Cardinal for 307 rushing yards on 7.5 ypc. Johnson paced the team with 135 yards in the win, and also scored a touchdown, while Blount contributed 90 yards and two scores on 9.0 ypc. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli only completed 11-of-21 passes, but did finish the game with 144 yards and one score.

The Oregon defense has not been as impressive, but the unit has done a decent job, allowing 25.3 ppg behind 360.6 total ypg. Where this team has struggled most is against the pass, as opponents are torching Oregon for 246.1 ypg through the air, and out of the 28 touchdowns allowed by this defense, 17 have come via the pass. Fortunately this unit has been able to force big plays, collecting 22 turnovers on the year, while also recording an impressive 30 sacks. This past weekend against Stanford, the Ducks allowed 219 yards and two touchdowns through the air. T.J. Ward led the way in the win with 14 tackles, while two other players collected nine stops apiece.

Both teams have been outstanding offensively, but what separates these two teams is the play of Arizona's defense. The Wildcats might be on the road, but they should do enough to grab a thrilling win in Eugene
