Tucson, AZ -- (Sports Network) - Justin Kahut kicked a 24-yard field goal as time expired just minutes after botching a potential game-tying extra point and the 21st-ranked Oregon State Beavers kept their Pac-10 tile and Rose Bowl hopes alive with a 19-17 victory over the Arizona Wildcats.Sean Canfield connected on 20-of-32 pass attempts for 224 yards and a score while Sammie Stroughter had five receptions for 116 yards and a TD in the Beavers (8-3, 7-1 Pac-10) sixth straight victory and seventh in a row against league foes. James Rodgers rushed for 102 yards and a score on just 10 carries while brother and vital teammate Jacquizz Rodgers was sidelined early in the contest with a shoulder injury and did not return. With the win, OSU moved closer to its first Pac-10 title since sharing the honor in 2000, and will look to continue their remarkable run at clinching the program's first Rose Bowl berth since 1965, hosting conference rival Oregon next Saturday to close out the regular season. After losing to Stanford and Penn State to open the season, the Beavers rallied by winning eight of its next nine outings, including a huge upset of then top-ranked USC back in late September. That win is especially important, as it will serve as the tie-breaker if OSU and USC were to finish tied atop the Pac-10 standings. The Trojans, who moved to 7-1 in conference play with a win against Stanford last Saturday, is idle this week before hosting Notre Dame and closing out the season in Los Angeles against UCLA. Keola Antolin racked up 114 yards rushing and a TD on 25 carries for the Wildcats (6-5, 4-4) who are still aiming for their first seven-win campaign in a decade. Arizona had alternated wins and losses over their previous six games, which included a wild 55-45 setback at Oregon last weekend. Willie Tuitama completed 16-of-22 passes for 158 yards and a TD to Rob Gronkowski, who finished with three grabs for 50 yards. Mike Thomas led the receiving corps with six catches for 50 yards. Arizona took its first lead of the game, 17-10, with 8 1/2 minutes left to play but OSU put together a clutch 10-play, 80-yard trek that was filled with drama. James Rodgers dropped a sure deep ball that would have resulted in a game- tying 41-yard TD but OSU came right back with Canfield hitting Stroughter for 34 yards on 3rd-and-8 from the Wildcats 41. Three plays later on 3rd-and- goal, Canfield found Stroughter in the front left part of the end zone for a seven-yard TD. However, Kahut missed the extra point for a 17-16 game with just under four minutes left to play. Arizona took 2:34 off the clock before pinning the Beavers at their own 20 with 1:19 left. OSU was aggressive in moving the ball right from the start with a 20-yard pass to Jeremy Francis and two plays later -- a 47-yard gain to Stroughter had the Beavers on the Wildcat seven-yard-line with 39 seconds to go. Three plays from there netted nary a yard and Kahut was able to redeem himself with the game-winning boot straight down the middle with zeros on the clock. The game unfolded as a defensive struggle from the start with a scoreless first quarter that ended with Arizona beginning what would be the game's first scoring drive. The Wildcats finished off the 16-play, 72-yard sojourn with a 27-yard field goal from Jason Bondzio. OSU continued to struggle on offense but managed a 52-yard drive at the close of the half, and Kahut drilled a 47-yard kick through the uprights to tie the game at 3-3. The Beavers used their first drive of the second half to take a 10-3 lead with James Rodgers capping the 61-yard trek with a seven-yard scoring run. Both teams went three-and-out before Arizona moved the ball 76 yards in 13 plays with Gronkowski hauling in a 16-yard TD catch to tie that game, 10-10, with 16 seconds left in the third quarter. OSU was determined to move the ball in the fourth and converted a 4th-and- inches from its own 40 on the opening possession before turning the ball over on downs on 4th-and-1 just past midfield. Arizona used the good field position to rumble 50 yards in eight plays, and Antolin gave the Wildcats a 17-10 lead with a nine-yard scoring run with 8 1/2 minutes to play. Game Notes Arizona leads the all-time series with OSU, 20-11-1, but the Beavers have won nine of the last 10 meetings and four straight in Tucson...OSU outgained the Wildcats 390-297 in net yards but Arizona captured the time of possession 32:43-27:17.
