Iverson Expected To Debut For Grizzlies At Sacramento

(Sports Network) - After sitting out his club's first three games, future Hall of Famer Allen Iverson is expected to make his Memphis debut tonight as the Grizzlies hope to keep a young Sacramento Kings team winless.

Iverson, who has been sitting with a partially torn left hamstring, is expected to team with second-year standout O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley Jr. to give coach Lionel Hollins a talented three-man guard rotation.

The Grizz opened up a five-game west coast road swing on a losing note Sunday when Denver's Carmelo Anthony ended with 42 points and seven rebounds, as the Nuggets out-gunned Memphis, 133-123, to stay undefeated. Anthony recorded his second consecutive 40-point game for the Nuggets, who moved to 3-0 this season.

Mayo paced Memphis with a career-high 40 points, and Marc Gasol added 20 points and 11 rebounds, but the Grizzlies fell for the second time in three games on the young season.

"They showed why they were Western Conference finalists [last season]," Hollins said of the Nuggets. "But we have to be proud of how we battled. If we continue to battle like that, we'll be happy."

Memphis will finish its trip with visits to Golden State, the LA Lakers and the LA Clippers.

The Kings, meanwhile, hope the cozy confines of ARCO Arena can cure their ills. The team finished winless on a three-game road trip to open its season when Tony Parker had 24 points and seven assists to lead San Antonio in a 113-94 blowout of Sacramento on Saturday.

Kevin Martin poured in 26 points and Spencer Hawes scored 22 and secured 10 rebounds for the Kings as new head coach Paul Westphal still searches for his first win with the club.

"We got outworked by them on every category that mattered, defensively, and that's what I was looking at," Westphal said after the loss in the Alamo City.

Sacramento will finish a quick two-game homestand on Wednesday when it faces Atlanta.

These two teams split the four-game season series last season, with each winning once on the road. Overall, however, Memphis has won just two of its 27 visits to California's capital.
