Local Musicians Come Together For Bridge Relief Concert
POSTED: 3:24 pm CDT August 10,
2007
The morning after the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed in Minneapolis, local musicians began calling up the Fine Line Music Cafe. They weren't trying to buy tickets to the latest show or promote themselves. Instead, they were seeking for a way to help. Now, 11 of those acts are ready to take the stage Sunday to raise funds for the I-35W bridge relief effort. All of the bands in the lineup share one thing in common -- when they called the Fine Line that morning, they asked if the club was doing anything and if they could be involved in any way. Thus the relief concert was born. All ticket proceeds and a portion of bar sales from the concert at Fine Line Music Cafe will go to the Minnesota Helps Fund: Bridge Disaster Fund. The fund was created in response to the outpouring of community concern following the Aug. 1 collapse of the Minneapolis bridge. The remains of eight victims had been recovered from the bridge site, and five more were confirmed missing as of Friday afternoon. The lineup for the concert includes local musicians Hairball, The Melismatics, The Alarmists, Tim Mahoney, Willie Wisely, Christy Love & You Know Who, Charlz Newman, the Abdomen, Send Up The Room, Pop ROCKS, and Concentual. The evening will also include a silent auction featuring music and sports memorabilia. Included in the auction will be a hockey stick signed by the Minnesota Wild team. The schedule for the evening is as follows:
- 5:30-5:55 - Concentual
- 6:05-6:25 - Send Up The Room
- 6:35-6:55 - Charlz Newman
- 7-7:15 - Willie Wisely
