Senators' Alfredsson To Have Surgery

POSTED: 1:18 pm CDT October 10, 2008

(Sports Network) - Ottawa Senators center Daniel Alfredsson will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the team announced on Friday.

The surgery, which is scheduled for later on Friday, will remove a bone chip in the captain's knee that was dislodged during Ottawa's game against Pittsburgh on Sunday in Stockholm, Sweden.

No timetable has been given for his return.

Ottawa's all-time leader in goals (331), assists (518) and games played (855), the 35-year-old had a pair of assists in the Senators' two games last weekend against Pittsburgh in Europe.

Joe Thornton's third-period goal was the difference, and the San Jose Sharks secured the best record in NHL history after 26 games with a 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
