NHL Game Summary - Minnesota At Columbus

(Sports Network) - Kris Russell's goal midway through the third period lifted the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild in preseason action at Nationwide Arena.

R.J. Umberger, Craig MacDonald and Kristian Huselius each tallied goals for Columbus, while Manny Malhotra contributed an empty-net score and Rick Nash dished out three assists.

Pascal Leclaire allowed three goals on 15 shots against, while Fredrik Norrena stopped all 12 shots he faced in the third period for the Blue Jackets.

Owen Nolan, Marian Gaborik and James Sheppard scored for Minnesota, and Niklas Backstrom was beaten four times on 40 shots to take the loss.

Coming off a career-worst performance in his last outing, Niklas Backstrom turned aside all 22 shots he faced to record his third shutout of the season, as the Minnesota Wild blanked the St. Louis Blues, 4-0, at the Xcel Energy Center.
