Iowa

Ames -- What could be more appropriate for a netcam from the school of engineering than having it point at a building under construction -- a large, new engineering building as a matter of fact. This shots are normally boring, but this one is so large as to be interesting. Worth videobugvideobug

Ames -- A close-up, down looking shot of what, you know right away, can only be a university campus. In this case, it's Iowa State University. Not much to look at here, unless you catch a passing student. There are trees which, I'm sure, look golden in the fall. There are the brick buildings and the seemingly requisite gothic tower rising in the background here. Solid pic if you seek the feel of a university campus. videobugvideobug +

Bettendorf -- Technically a shot of Bettendorf, Iowa, with the Mississippi River in the background, but the camera is located in Moline, Illinois. The camera is over looking the Interstate 74 bridge between Moline and Bettendorf. Very clean and sharp camera shot with nice proportion and location, really making you feel like you are swooping across the bridge in a car. Worth videobugvideobugvideobug.

Cedar Rapids -- The camera from this Hawkeye state city is an example of a high-quality camera with poor positioning (at least on the day I dropped by.) It showed some rooftops and a few buildings, but little sky. It needs a better location or be aimed better to improve on its videobugvideobug given mainly because the quality is so nice.

Clear Lake -- Here's a nice view from Iowa. Instead of seeing a city, though, you see a winding road lined with trees, and a prairie of snow. It's a realistic view of Iowa -- in fact, most of the Upper Midwest -- if I ever saw one. Reminds me of home. (Southwestern Minnesota -- much the same.) videobugvideobug + (lb)

Davenport -- Another quandry shot. This one is looking from Rock Island, Illinois, to Davenport, Iowa, with the Mississippi River in the foreground. A tad more blotchy from this camera, but that is nitpicking. Good proportion, occasionally a riverboat (Casino Rock Island Boat) is docked in front of the President Riverboat Casino. Some nice old buildings are viewed. I'm told on some occasions it is swung around and is looking at the Rock Island Arsenal swing span. This one comes in just a shade under the Bettendorf shot at videobugvideobug +.

Des Moines -- Thi is a three-for-one deal -- all three are skycams showing a rather distant view of the city. In the bottom one, though, you can make out what looks to be the Capitol building. Unfortunately, the top two are both a case of too-much-sky-not-enough-detail. videobug + (lb)

Lake Okoboji -- This resort lake lies in northwestern Iowa and this camera shot provides a huge view of this lake. The camera reproduction is red-tinted, but appears sharp and large. It's good for checking out the weather and activity on the lake along with getting a feeling of its popularity. Worth videobugvideobugvideobug

Monticello -- Take a look at First Avenue in this small Iowa town. Camera appears to be on a sidewalk, and you get a jilted view of an old office building. The image is small, and it's tilted and a bit grainy. It does, however, give you a small town feeling that can be soothing to those tired of the hustle and bustle of city life. Points for being a small town camera. Worth videobugvideobug +
