Texas
Amarillo -- The first time this one popped up in my browser it was stunning. Large and clear and framed well. This aerial view from the KVII Tower offers a long vista of the Texas landscape. Nice shot. It's updated every 3 minutes. 
Austin -- Here's a shot of the downtown area of his "hip" city that is becoming an increasing favorite of Hollywood types. Colors off this camera are rich, and it's pretty sharp, too. It has to be atop the city's tallest building or atop a tower atop a building. It offers nice proportion for what it contains, and gives you a decent feel for the age of downtown buildings, but it's pretty boring as it could come from "Anycity USA." Worth + mainly because of the camera quality.
Corpus Christi -- Here's a live surf cam, from Whitecap Rd. just North of Bob Hall Pier in Corpus Christi. When I first looked at this one, it had been knocked out for a about a week due to a hurricane that stormed through there, but it looks like all is well now. Says it updates every 30 seconds and the date is current, but frankly it looks exactly the same as before, just a little sunnier.
Dallas -- Want to see what JFK's assasin saw? The Dealy Plaza Cam is the only live view available in the world from the Sniper's Perch -- the sixth floor window of the former Texas School Book Depository in Dallas, Texas. Not only is this a great visual -- clear, updates regularly, pans its surroundings -- but knowing it is an exclusive view makes this cam a top-rater.
Dallas -- The city's downtown skyline comes from the third floor of an office building looking south toward downtown. Crystal clear image which provides a nice shot of the downtown skyline. Proportion is very nice. +
Denton -- Here's a fabulous camera in Denton, Texas. When I first looked at this cam it had a broken image, but I'm glad I saved the link. It must have been a mishap. The shot is from Denton's Historic Downtown Square, showing an amazing building. I'm not sure what it is, but it looks European. A new picture is taken every 60 seconds.
Houston -- All right, all right, I know. I've said no traffic cameras and here I am, providing one from a Houston highway. But, it has an office building for proportion, is sharp and clear and the highway ebbs and flows into the horizon. It's automatically updated every 60 seconds and really, truly, isn't a bad netcam for a reason I can't identify. Worth +
San Antonio -- Here's a city view from KSAT 12's site. It's really blurry right now, but it doesn't look too interesting, even if it were clear. All I see now is traffic. Who knows -- the skyline might be nice when it clears up. (lb)
San Antonio -- We now have the Alamo Cam, housed in the historic Crockett Building, with a front row view of the landmark, along with all its sightseers. It refreshes itself every 30 seconds and since most people are out front looking at the building for longer than that, you can see them walk around as the shots refresh. You can also click on the panorama view, which is not live, but it's great for getting your bearings in respect to the building. +
San Antonio -- This shot of a downtown street has improved. It is no longer just two-thirds of the image. But now only Netscape users can download the image onto PCs. You can choose to view a small or large image, which is nice for computers that tend to crash and burn at the mere thought of downloading a large file. The picture of this innocuous street corner reloads automatically every several seconds, showing cars and busses passing by in close to real time. Makes you feel like a peeping Tom from above and can give a bad case of vertigo if you're not careful. Impressive in that regard. But limited to Netscape, so I'll give it +. (lr)
