Missing Leg Returns To OwnerA Child's Fake Leg, Lost In A River One Year Ago, Is Found And ReturnedBEND, Ore., Posted 3:21 p.m. EDT May 28, 2000 -- Roger Fadness doesn't usually look at the classified ads.
But a brief announcement in last Wednesday's Bend Bulletin newspaper caught his eye.
It read -- "FOUND: Child's fake leg with tennis shoe in Tumalo Creek near Tumalo Falls."
Coincidence? A year ago, Fadness' son Joshua -- now 8-years-old -- lost his prosthetic leg in the creek.
Joshua's leg was amputated below the knee when he was 1-year-old to remove a cancerous tumor.
His mother says he took his leg off to go wading and was waving it at some girls when he dropped it in the water. The leg didn't turn up -- until someone found it caught in a log jam and put an ad in the paper.
Now that it's back, Joshua's mother says she plans to use the prosthesis as a planter.
