Friendly Greeting Mistaken For HijackingMan Named Jack At Center Of MisunderstandingWATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich., Updated 6:49 p.m. EDT June 6, 2000 -- If your name is Jack, you might want to think twice about traveling in small aircraft with your friends. Airport officials called a corporate jet back to the tower at the Oakland International Airport and police surrounded it -- all because of a fellow named Jack. Police say someone got on the jet and said, "Hi, Jack" in front of an open microphone. Controllers thought they heard "hijack" and took the appropriate measures. Police say that at least the incident shows that the system works.
