Grape Juice Battles Second Hand Smoke?

Study Finds It Might Help Protect You From Tobacco

Grape Juice WASHINGTON, D.C., Posted 4:15 p.m. April 19, 1999 -- A glass of purple grape juice may provide some protection against the cardiovascular dangers of second hand smoke.

Dr. John Folts of the University of Wisconsin says his research shows a glass of juice neutralized the ability of tobacco smoke to increase the stickiness of blood platelets in lab animals.

Increased platelet stickiness is a known contributor to atherosclerosis, heart attack and stroke.

Folts says further research will be conducted this summer to see if the grape juice has the same effect on humans exposed to second hand smoke.
