Vegas Q&A: Where Can I Find A Regular Hotel?
Question: We want to go to Vegas but we don't want to stay in one of those huge casinos on the Strip. What are some good regular hotel options?
Bell in Tallahassee, Fla.
Answer: I can understand how those 4,000-room monsters on the Strip can be a little overwhelming, especially if you're traveling with kids. But the good news is that with more than 120,000 hotel rooms, Vegas has a little something for everyone.
Paradise Road is your best bet for finding a dependable alternate location at decent rates. It's the first major street just east of the Strip, so you're close to the action without being right in the middle of it, and it is packed from one end to the other with brand-name hotels.
My personal favorite is the La Quinta near Flamingo Road. It's a typical budget-minded hotel, but the rooms and grounds are well-tended and the staff has been nothing but friendly in past visits.
Within a few blocks of there you'll find other recognizable marquees such as Candlewood Suites, Residence Inn by Marriott, Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn, Courtyard, AmeriSuites and many more. All of them are very respectable hotels, although none will offer you the thrills and chills of a Strip visit.
