Kevin Garnett had 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who have won two in a row. Mark Blount and Marco Jaric each had 11 points and seven rebounds. Chris Paul led the Hornets with 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds, as New Orleans/Oklahoma City was looking to start a season 5-0 at home for the first time in franchise history since the 2002-03 campaign. Bobby Jackson and Jannero Pargo each contributed 13 points for the Hornets, who have dropped two in a row. Leading by three points in the fourth quarter, Minnesota went on an 11-2 run to increase its lead to 81-69 with just under four minutes remaining in the contest. Troy Hudson scored five points during the surge including a deep three-pointer. The Hornets outscored the T'Wolves 10-5 the rest of the way but it wasn't enough as Minnesota held on for the victory. Trailing by three points at the end of the opening quarter, the Timberwolves outscored the Hornets 21-17 in the second stanza to take a 44-43 lead at halftime. Davis led Minnesota with 12 points while Blount added 10 on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor. Jackson led the Hornets with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field at the break. Minnesota outscored New Orleans/Oklahoma City 22-17 in the third frame to take a six-point edge into the final quarter.Game Notes:Minnesota shot 47.9 percent from the field for the game and outrebounded Hornets 52-42...Hudson finished with nine points and five rebounds for the Timberwolves...The Hornets shot 33.8 percent from the floor and were just 3- for-17 from beyond the arc.
