Local TeamsSports ChannelsNational Sports SurveySponsored Links | T-Wolves Acquire No. 5 Pick In Draft, 3 Players From WizMinneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday acquired the No. 5 pick in this year's draft, center Etan Thomas, and forwards Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov from the Washington Wizards in exchange for guards Randy Foye and Mike Miller.With the move, the T-Wolves now have a league-high four first-round picks (Nos. 5, 6, 18 and 28) and two top-ten picks for the first time in franchise history. "This draft offers us an opportunity to begin transforming the Timberwolves into a team poised for long-term success, and the prospect of acquiring an additional asset in the No. 5 pick, along with some added depth in our frontcourt, was very attractive," said Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn. The 6-foot-10 Thomas appeared in 26 games and averaged 3.1 points, 2.5 rebounds in 11.1 minutes for Washington last season, his seventh in the league. Songaila, a six-year veteran, played in 77 games for the Wizards last year and averaged 7.4 points and 2.9 boards in 19.8 minutes per game. The 6-foot-9 Songaila has also played for Sacramento, Chicago and Washington with averages of 7.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 410 games -- 78 starts. The seven-foot Pecherov has posted averages of 3.6 points and 2.1 boards in 8.9 minutes per game in 67 tilts over two seasons for the Wiz. Foye played three seasons for Minnesota and averaged 13.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 29.5 minutes per game over 191 contests. The 2001 Rookie of the Year and 2006 Sixth Man of the Year, Miller owns career averages of 13.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 638 games for Orlando, Memphis and Minnesota.
