Brian Anderson went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the White Sox, who beat the Twins in Minnesota for the first time since July 30, 2008. Scott Podsednik and Paul Konerko each knocked in a run. "It was a huge win for the team. We pulled it out and it was a big win. It was a big confidence boost for us to come back and win," Beckham said. Gavin Floyd (7-6) went 7 2/3 frames, allowing five runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts to collect the win for Chicago. Bobby Jenks gave up two runs -- one earned -- in the ninth but was able to hold on for his 20th save of the year. Joe Crede hit a three-run home run and a solo homer for the Twins, who won, 6-4, in the series opener on Friday. Jose Morales stroked a two-run single, while Joe Mauer drove in the other run in defeat. "The main focus is to go out there and try to find a way to win a ballgame and unfortunately we weren't able to do that," Crede said. Glen Perkins (4-5) lasted just 4 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout to take the loss. Mark Buehrle will try to continue his strong season when he takes the mound this afternoon for Chicago with a 9-2 record and a 3.14 ERA. Buehrle has pitched extremely well this season and comes into this matchup with three wins in his last four starts. The last time the southpaw was on the hill he tossed seven strong innings against Cleveland, limiting the Indians to just three runs on seven hits. The Twins will hand the ball to Scott Baker, who will be looking to rebound from a tough loss against the New York Yankees. In the 10-2 defeat against the Bronx Bombers, Baker was touched for five runs on nine hits and did not make it past the third inning. It was the first loss in the last five outings for Baker, who is now 6-7 on the year with a 5.31 earned run average. These division rivals played a pair of series in Chicago earlier this year, with the Sox winning four of six tilts. Copyright 2009 Courtesy of The Sports Network. |
