Twins' Morneau, Nathan Undergo Minor Procedures

POSTED: 12:44 am CDT October 26,2009

(Sports Network) - Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau and closer Joe Nathan each underwent a procedure to have bone chips removed this week.

Both surgeries took place Tuesday according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Morneau had a bone chip removed from his right wrist by hand specialist Dr. Thomas Verecka. He is expected to make a full recovery in time for spring training.

Nathan, meanwhile, visited Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama earlier in the week and had two bone chips removed from his right elbow. He is also expected to be ready to go come spring training.

Morneau missed the final 21 games of the regular season and sat out Minnesota's divisional series with the Yankees due to a stress fracture in his lower back. It's expected he will avoid a procedure to address that ailment.

The 2006 American League MVP hit .274 with 30 homers and 100 runs batted in over 135 games this season. Nathan saved 47 games to set a new club record in 2009, posting a 2.10 earned run average and 2-2 record in 70 games.
