POSTED: 8:09 pm CDT July 5, 2009

(Sports Network) - Sandrine Gruda, making her season debut after helping France to a 2009 Eurobasket Women's Championship crown, totaled a career-high 23 points, as Connecticut defeated Detroit, 95-92, in overtime at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Erin Phillips scored six of her 19 points in the extra session, while Asjha Jones finished with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Sun, who have won four of their last five games.

Katie Smith posted a game-high 28 points and Shavonte Zellous added 20 for the Shock, who fell to 2-7 on the year.

Smith nailed a three-pointer to give Detroit a 79-77 lead with 58.3 seconds remaining in regulation, but Connecticut's Lindsay Whalen sank two free throws to force overtime.

Phillips opened the extra session with a three-point play, and knocked down a trey to stretch the lead to 90-85 with 53.7 seconds to play. A Smith jumper closed the gap to 92-90 in the waning moments, but the Sun sealed the win at the charity stripe.
